If aliens ever intercepted Earth’s television signals, they’d probably be both fascinated and very, very confused. One minute they’d be watching humans cry over roses on dating shows, and the next, they’d see people baking cakes under extreme pressure for no clear reason. Imagine their faces as they try to understand why we cheer for people running around on islands or why we scream at spinning wheels on game shows. From their perspective, Earth must seem like a bizarre but entertaining planet-sized reality show.

They might even think our species worships talking animals, considering how often we feature cats, dogs, and cartoon sponges in our programming. Documentaries might give them hope that we’re intelligent, but then a single episode of a chaotic prank show would probably cancel that out. Still, one thing’s certain if aliens do come visit, it might be because they want to find out who finally wins the next season of The Great Galactic Bake-Off.
